Pro-Poor Climate Action in Informal Settlements (2018)
This thematic guide is intended for those with an interest in the opportunities for building resilience and addressing the challenges of informality hand-in-hand. It is aimed at national and municipal government officials and civil society leaders in low- and middle-income countries. This guide will also be of value to planners, practitioners and researchers with an interest in integrating climate resilience in processes to improve conditions in informal settlements.

Addressing Urban and Human Settlements Issues in National Adaptation Plans (2018)
This guide highlights the crucial role of scaling up climate action by integrating human settlements into national adaptation planning and processes. With this new normative guide supplementary to the UNFCCC NAP Technical Guidelines, UN-Habitat stands ready to support Member States in integrating Human Settlements more strongly into National Adaptation Planning and action.

City Resilience Action Planning Tool (2018)
The City Resilience Action Planning (CityRAP) Tool aims to enable local governments of small to intermediate sized cities, or neighbourhoods/districts of bigger cities or metropolitan areas, to plan and undertake practical actions to strengthen the resilience of their cities. It targets local governments with limited experience in risk reduction and resilience planning and an urban population size of maximum 250,000 people.
The CityRAP Tool puts local governments and urban stakeholders in the driver’s seat of urban resilience planning from Day 1. The tool is designed so that local governments can adapt and implement it with minimal intervention from outside technical experts, using practical methods to leverage local knowledge.

Guiding Principles for City Climate Action Planning (2015)
The Guiding Principles for City Climate Action Planning reviews typical steps in the city-level climate action planning process in light of a proposed set of globally applicable principles. These principles, shown below, developed through a robust and open multi-stakeholder process, support local officials, planners and stakeholders in climate action planning1. Such plans aim to help cities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adopt low emission development trajectories, as well as adapt to the impacts of climate change and build local climate resilience.
These Guiding Principles are intended to be applied flexibly, together with more detailed ‘how to’ manuals, to help cities more effectively play their role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and building climate resilience.

Planning for climate change: Guide – A strategic, values-based approach for urban planners (2014)
This report was developed for city planners to better understand, assess and take action on climate change at the local level. Specifically targeted to the needs of planners and allied professionals in low and middle-income countries where the challenges of planning for climate change are particularly high.
The guide’s strategic,values based planning framework: – promotes a participatory planning process that integrates local participation and good decision-making. – provides practical tools for addressing climate change through different urban planning processes. – supports the “mainstreaming” of climate change actions into other local government policy instruments.

Developing Local Climate Change Plans (2012)
This tool provides local policy-makers and major stakeholders with a methodology to plan for climate change. These plans must address both mitigation (e.g., reducing the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere) and adaptation (responding to the impacts of climate change). If they are to be effective, local plans for climate change (both adaptation and mitigation) require the involvement of a variety of stakeholders and a specific focus on the most vulnerable groups.

Urban Patterns for a Green Economy: Working with Nature (2012)
Part of a series of four entitled Urban Patterns for a Green Economy, this guide (Working with Nature) focuses on the effect of unplanned, rapid growth of cities on the functioning of a city-region’s natural systems. It outlines how guided development can maximise the ability of ecosystems to support sustainable human and natural processes.
It offers a perspective on how to work with nature and the ecological processes in regions, and looks at the need to work across scales; to understand regional systems; and develop principles and measures that can be applied at the regional, city and local scales.
